Fable 5 is back — check your Copilot model picker
Fable 5 returned July 1, so for Copilot users the practical step is to check GitHub's current model picker and organization policy to see whether it's exposed for your plan — and to plan for the premium usage-credit pricing.
Quick summary
- Fable 5 is back (July 1); whether Copilot exposes it can differ by plan and organization policy.
- Old Copilot access claims from before the outage may still be stale — check the live picker.
- Fable 5 is premium-priced on usage credits, so use a cheaper Copilot model or Claude fallback for routine work.
Model picker
Open the current Copilot model selector. Fable 5 is back on the Anthropic side, so if it's missing, that's most likely GitHub's rollout or your plan/policy — not a model-level suspension anymore.
Organization policy
Business and enterprise users may have model restrictions set by an admin. That's an account-layer decision, separate from Anthropic — the June nationality restriction is gone, so any block you see is policy, not the outage.
Premium request economics
Frontier models can consume premium requests differently. With Fable 5 back but premium-priced on usage credits, plan cost around reserving it for the hard jobs and using cheaper models for routine work.
Need the short answer?
Fable 5 is back worldwide as of July 1 — in-plan on Max and Team Premium, on usage credits for Pro. See the live status, or use GLM-5.2 or the new Sonnet 5 for cheaper work.
