Fable 5 on Copilot
Copilot users: you may already have Fable 5
The least-known fact of the Fable 5 launch: GitHub Copilot carries it. Millions of Copilot subscribers can run Anthropic's newest model without a Claude subscription or API key, and most have not noticed.
Quick summary
- Fable 5 is available through GitHub Copilot's model picker on supported paid plans.
- No Claude account or Anthropic API key is needed; billing stays inside your Copilot plan.
- Organization accounts may need an admin to enable Anthropic models in Copilot policy first.
Check whether you already have it
Open Copilot Chat in VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, or on github.com and look at the model dropdown. If Fable 5 is listed, you are one click away. If it is missing, the two usual reasons are plan tier and organization policy, covered below. The whole check takes under a minute.
Enable Anthropic models for your account or org
Individual subscribers manage model access in Copilot settings on github.com. For business and enterprise accounts, an administrator has to allow Anthropic models in the organization's Copilot policy before members see Fable 5 in any picker. If you are on a work account and the model is missing, send your admin the policy settings page rather than debugging your editor.
What Fable 5 costs inside Copilot
Copilot meters advanced models through premium requests, with multipliers that differ per model and plan. Frontier models typically carry a higher multiplier, so a Fable 5 conversation consumes your monthly premium-request allowance faster than the default model. Check GitHub's current multiplier table for exact numbers; the principle is the same as Claude's own 2x notice: route the hard problems to Fable 5, not every autocomplete.
Copilot route vs Claude subscription vs API
If you already pay for Copilot, it is the cheapest way to taste Fable 5 because the marginal cost is requests you already own. The Claude subscription route gives the full Claude Code agentic experience while Fable 5 is in plan limits until June 22. The API route at $10 and $50 per million tokens gives exact cost control. Many developers reasonably use Copilot to evaluate the model, then decide whether deeper Fable 5 work justifies a Claude plan or API budget.
Make the most of Fable 5 before June 22
Fable 5 is included in Claude plan limits until June 22, and it draws down usage faster than Opus. The Sprint Kit is a one-time playbook for getting real work out of the window: task templates, a usage calculator, and a credits decision guide.

Is Fable 5 really available on GitHub Copilot?
Yes, Fable 5 is among the Anthropic models offered through Copilot's model picker on supported paid plans, subject to organization policy for business accounts.
Why can't I see Fable 5 in Copilot?
Either your plan tier does not include it yet or your organization has Anthropic models disabled in Copilot policy. Individual plans manage this in Copilot settings; org members need an admin.
Does Copilot's Fable 5 use my Claude subscription limits?
No. Copilot access is metered entirely through GitHub's premium-request system and has nothing to do with Claude plan limits or the June 22 transition.
