TRAE Skills

TRAE keeps global Skills in ~/.trae/skills/ and project Skills in .trae/skills/, and lists both in Settings > Skills & Commands. 104 ready-made Skills for video, images, web pages and slides.

Checkout is not open yet: it opens once our payment provider finishes its review, and downloads open with it. Nothing is charged until then.

How to add a Skill to TRAE

  1. Unzip the Skill so its folder sits at ~/.trae/skills/<skill>/SKILL.md for every project, or at .trae/skills/<skill>/ in a project.
  2. Open Settings > Skills & Commands and check it is listed under Global or Project. If it isn’t, restart TRAE.
  3. Make sure the Skill is switched on; the same list enables and disables Skills.
  4. Ask for the result, or tell TRAE to use the Skill by name, for example “Use the <skill> skill to …”.

Good to know

  • .trae beats .agents. If a Skill in .trae/skills/ has the same name as one in .agents/skills/, TRAE uses the one in .trae/skills/.
  • .agents/skills/ needs a switch. To use it, go to Settings > Skills & Commands and, under Import Settings, turn on Enable .agents Skills Directory.
  • Uploading in Settings fills in the text. TRAE can take a SKILL.md or a ZIP in Settings and fills in the name, description and instructions; its docs then say to add scripts and other resources to the folder by hand. Unzipping into the folder keeps every file.

TRAE Skills vs rules

Rules load in full as soon as a chat starts and stay in the context window. A Skill loads only when it is used, which TRAE’s docs say cuts token use. A Skill describes how TRAE should do a task; an MCP server provides the tools it calls.
