Kimi Code Skills

How to add a Skill to Kimi Code

  1. Unzip the Skill so its folder sits at ~/.kimi-code/skills/<skill>/SKILL.md for every project, or at .kimi-code/skills/<skill>/ in a project.
  2. Start a new Kimi Code session.
  3. Type /skill: and find it in the slash command list.
  4. Ask for the result, or run /skill:<skill> with any extra text after it.

Good to know

  • Project beats user. If the same name is in several places, the project Skill wins, then your user Skill, then folders from extra_skill_dirs, then built-in Skills.
  • SKILL.md needs name and description. In a Skill folder, both fields must be in the frontmatter or the Skill fails to parse. Ours have both.
  • The project is the nearest .git. Kimi Code looks for project Skills at the nearest folder above you that contains .git, so start it inside the repository.

Skills vs pasting a prompt

Kimi Code’s docs put it this way: a Skill keeps the instructions in a file you can reuse across projects and teams, load with a slash command, and let the model call when needed, instead of pasting the same text into every prompt.

FAQ

Kimi Code Skills: questions

Where is the Kimi Code skills folder?

User Skills go in ~/.kimi-code/skills/ (or $KIMI_CODE_HOME/skills/) or ~/.agents/skills/. Project Skills go in .kimi-code/skills/ or .agents/skills/ at the project root, the nearest folder containing .git. Source (opens in a new tab)

How do I run a Skill in Kimi Code?

Type /skill: and its name, for example /skill:code-style; text after the name goes to the Skill. /<name> also works when no built-in or plugin command has that name. The model can also call a Skill on its own from its description. Source (opens in a new tab)

I added a Skill and Kimi Code doesn’t see it.

Start a new session. Check that the file is named SKILL.md inside the Skill’s own folder and that its frontmatter has both name and description. Source (opens in a new tab)

Can Kimi Code use my Claude Code and Codex Skills?

Kimi Code ships a built-in /import-from-cc-codex command that imports Claude Code and Codex instructions, Skills and MCP settings. It also reads ~/.agents/skills/, a folder meant to be shared across tools. Source (opens in a new tab)
