Fable 5.2: the rumor that is now called Fable 5.5

Is Claude Fable 5.2 out? No. The model leakers called “Fable 5.2” in September is the one they now call “Fable 5.5.” Here is what was claimed, what came true, and where we keep the live ledger.

The short answer

Not released. As of October 9, 2026, Anthropic has not announced a Fable 5.2 or 5.5—no model card, API ID or price. The newest Fable is 5.1, released September 1. The September “Fable 5.2” leaks and the October “Fable 5.5” leaks describe the same rumored successor; treat every date as a rumor.

What is officially true

Anthropic released Fable 5.1 on September 1, Opus 5.5 on September 22, Sonnet 5.5 on September 28 and Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026. Its model directory lists Fable 5.1 as the current Fable; its newsroom has no Fable announcement after September 1.

How “5.2” became “5.5”

September 18: @chetaslua posted “Fable 5.2 is tested in Claude Code,” saying Fable 5.1 requests were being routed to it; @notjazii reported similar routing. September 21: TestingCatalog reported stealth tests of Fable 5.2 alongside Opus 5.5—the Opus part came true the next day. From October 1 the same leakers switched to “Fable 5.5,” matching the Opus, Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 numbering, and a “Tuesday, October 6” date circulated. October 6 passed with no release. What would count as confirmation

An Anthropic newsroom post, a model ID in the API documentation, a price on the pricing page or a system card. Screenshots, routing tests and prediction-market odds are not confirmation.

What to do while you wait

Do not buy usage credits in advance for a model that does not exist yet. Max plans and premium Team/Enterprise seats include Fable 5 and 5.1 up to 50% of weekly usage limits; Pro and Team Standard seats use them with usage credits. If you need the strongest model today, compare Fable 5.1 with Opus 5.5 on your own task.

Almost certainly the same rumored model under two names. Anthropic has confirmed neither.

Unknown. Fable 5 and 5.1 were never in Claude Free; the free Fable 5 promotion ended on July 19, 2026.
