Fable uses separately billed usage credits.

  1. Check billing before selecting Fable 5 or 5.1. Pro’s included allowance does not cover them.
  2. Prefer your included models if you do not want extra charges. Check the provider’s rules before enabling credits.

  2. Fable can use up to 50% of your weekly allowance. At the limit, switch models or deliberately enable billed credits.

A personal Kiro upgrade does not unlock Fable.

  1. The current model table reserves Fable 5.1 for a limited Enterprise preview. Check the table before buying a plan.
  2. Use a supported model in your current tier. Opus 5.5 is listed on paid tiers at 2.0x credits, not Free.

No chat subscription does not mean free usage.

  1. Use the official developer platform and check model pricing before adding funds.
  2. Set a spending limit, protect your API key and start with a bounded test. Fable5.app does not issue keys or run your prompts.

The short answer

A Claude chat subscription is not the only route. Metered API usage is billed separately; “without a subscription” does not mean “without paying.”

API access is intended for software integrations. It is not a free copy of the Claude app. Check the client, key storage and spending controls before connecting a third-party tool.

Where Fable 5 stands today

Max plans and premium Team/Enterprise seats include Fable 5 and 5.1 up to 50% of weekly usage limits; Pro and Team Standard seats use them with usage credits. Claude Free does not include it, so every official route involves paying—either a plan or metered usage.
