Our note
A step-by-step animation of glycolysis and fermentation, labelled in Simplified Chinese. Twelve numbered steps run from glucose to glucose-6-phosphate through to acetaldehyde becoming ethanol, each tagged as energy investment, energy payoff or fermentation. Molecules are drawn as ball-and-stick diagrams with carbons numbered C1 to C6, and the atoms that change are ringed. Three counters at the top track net ATP, NADH and CO2: ATP dips to minus two before ending at plus two. The last frame sums it up as glucose to two ethanol plus two CO2. We have not checked the chemistry line by line.
