A blue-and-gold nocturne in a frame

About the post

A 75-second motion graphics piece in blue and gold, composed like a framed nocturne painting, with no further detail from the author.

Our summary. The author’s own words are in the post above; we do not copy them.

Our note

Staged as a museum audio guide: a gilt frame on a dark wall, a wall label, and subtitles for "Room fourteen. Nocturne in Blue and Gold, eighteen seventy-seven." The painting builds as the guide speaks: sky, river, a barge, fog, an old wooden bridge. Then a second voice, the lamplighter, says it isn't finished and lights the lamps one by one, a match strike and a count for each. A line recalls the critic who said a pot of paint had been flung in the public's face. Fireworks follow, and it closes on "Mind the wet paint." This is a nod to Whistler's nocturnes; the author gives no detail or prompt.
